Angry Birds and its origins in Uplause

Three years ago, Rovio was the entertainment developer at the Singapur Formula 1 Circuit. The company was behind the ambiance of that day to create the experience of Uplause with the collaboration of friendly pets: the Angry Birds.

The great sensation of the crowd was translated in an enjoyable day. People could interact with Angry Birds characters in a big-crowd game. The company firmed a contract with Singapore Telecommunications in order to launch the product in Singapur, and they designed the game with Uplause.

Peter Vesterbacka, marketing manager in Rovio, confirmed that “we believe that this new way to play will give to fans a great opportunity to connect emotionally with the Angry Birds characters”.

New York Mets roar Uplause

The New York Mets baseball team has signed a deal with Finnish crowd game developer Uplause to include the Finnish startup’s interactive products in Mets games for the 2013 season. The New York Mets will use Uplause as part of their in-stadium activation and programming. It’s Uplause’s first deal in the United States, and very soon in Spain with the collaboration of Startup Alliance. Uplause has created a social gaming platform for live events where the audience can play the games from the video board at stadiums and other venues. Games are controlled by voice level using microphones as a sensor. All games allow sponsor integration. Uplause has gone global in 18 countries, 40 stadiums and 30 brands. Besides the New York Mets, clients include Chelsea FC, Infront Sports and Media, La Liga teams, FIBA basketball world championship and the London Olympics.

Major global brands include Samsung, Mastercard, Coca-Cola and Turkish Airlines. The company’s social gaming experiences are generating a world-wide audience using voice activation, cameras and social media. Using Uplause, sports leagues and its individual teams can upgrade the programming and entertainment they offer in their arenas through social, digital and interactive software. Brands and sponsors can also activate and connect with their consumers and fans using the same technology.

Uplause says its technology can increase recognition rates for brands by up to 90 per cent and drive between 40 and 60 per cent engagement rates in social media, especially, in the future Spanish market.
